One of the things I like most is discovering new music, new bands.
I came across this great artist called Abilene Fawn, whose name was like already telling me it was going to be great even before listening to her music.
Without wanting to compare it makes me think of Anna Calvi, Imelda May...
I hate comparing artists as each of them are unique but it's just some thoughts coming through my head...I'm not associating them music wise but in the idea of the women playing serious music out there..

My new discovery and favourite of the moment: LESCOP.

Got hooked the first time i heard it and could listen to it all day now...
I love the 80's dark vibe of it, reminding me of some of our french artists at the time (Indochine, Etienne Daho...).
He's the first artist signed on John and Jen's Label: Pop Noire.
The band is doing a few gigs, one in London next Tuesday (make sure you come around, see the flyer below) and one in Paris on the 28th...Keep an eye on them, yet you can buy the EP in few stores like Rough Trade.

Here's my super crush of the moment Music wise, discovered this band a while ago and thought i should really post about them.

It's a trip to deep, dark and beautiful melodies that you really get addicted to once you get "in to it".
A blend of dark and beautiful, deep and destructured, powerful and eclectic.
Many compared their music to the Beatle's psychedelic era but they really have their own entity.
I have recently seen them in Brixton and had a chance to chat with the trio: Tyler Parkford, Michael Shuman, Zach Dawes. They are great on stage go and see them live and get swallowed into their atmosphere!

I really wish them luck in conquering even more music lovers around the word as they are defo worth to follow and as i am sure they will be huge soon...

Recently, i went to Queens of the stone age gig in London and was lucky enough to go backstage...
Met all the band and discovered that Dean Fertita (who was the lead singer and guitar player for The Waxwings) was also part of The Dead Weather, played with The Raconteurs and Hello=Fire (his own band).
This kind of workaholic person always impress me...
And i really liked the tone of the album, true rock n roll with some Beatles vibe into it.
Here's one of their video which i like ( esthetic and song wise) and by the way he is really cool, humble and easy to talk to!

Have you seen this big trend?Loads of midi skirts, everywhere and some of them are in light weight mousseline which i find great.
Midi skirtscan be found in different lenghts though i think its quite more under the knee that the first pic ( but we'll keep in mind these girls are very tall...).
They can be worn as an everyday skirt if you keep it low key, but can support you till dinners and drinks: just top up with a nice pair of starppy sandals, accessories (clutch, bangles), Or you may want to play romantic or boho chic, very versatile!
I particularly love the coral colour which you can harmonise with touches of gold...
And most of all, it is a colour that suits anybody!!!

I discovered this band at the Jamiroquai gig in Brussels, They are from NY of course!
It is the first time I hear a good supporting band to be honest, If I put aside Sophie Delila who is great as well!
Their sound is kind of pop electro, with catchy rythms and a good voice!
I'm sure we'll hear about them later on!

Mike has worked in the music industry before his political career and therefore has a true interest and passion for Music.

There is an exhibition "Night Work" until the 19 march 2011 showcasing Black and White photographs made by Robert Mapplethorpe.
It has been curated by the Scissor Sisters, who by the way, used his artwork for their album cover and single cover for "Night Work".

Right...As soon as I saw this catwalk I thought " Johnny ", I then had in my mind this picture of him with that type of hat...And there you go.
I really liked that show, a blend of elegant " grungy chic "/easy going look, denim/leather with more refined fabrics.

The bow tie is a must, they are everywhere, but make sure to balance with a cool look you dont want to look businessy!!
Shearling detailed collars, double fabric coats, vintage look leather, even aprons are gonna be around next winter.

Right exciting new catwalks, Menswear!!!!

I just put two of my favourites, for now.
Vivienne Westwood and Missoni.
Vivienne, as usual, just did great...I love everything about the show: Grooming (hair, make up...) very 50's madmen, british inspired...The colours are great, mustard yellows, olive greens, dark reds, blended with greys, browns.

Missoni, with its trade mark knits has also a lovely colour palette, very warm comfy style, note the hats also...

Both have this british feel, more casual for Missoni and easy elegance for Westwood.

The new it bag! From Chloé is the bowling/barrell shaped bag that i have seen coming out on different high street websites...Propper trend!!Usually this shape is a little difficult as you can't really open it wide, but the Chloé one has a full zip running to each side's endings.
But as the price is hmm hmm a bit high i will be happy with the Asos one which is quite a bargain!
Luxury wise, Burberry has its one as well as Marc Jacobs etc...

Apprently No Doubt will be recording a new album....I loved this band sooo much, I remember my first gig for Tragic Kingdom, was amazing!

Basquiat

Talented Jean Michel Basquiat was born in 1960 in Brooklyn from Portorican and Haitian origins.

He started his career making graffitis and soon breaked through in the 70's. He signs his art SAMO (Same Old Shit) and soon starts to paint on canvas.His work is naive, colourful and full of meaning, representative of the society he was living in, there are lots of words, types on his canvas repetitions, signs...(like the famous "crown"). He was the youngest and first black artist to present his work at the Whitney Museum Biennale of American Art in New York.
He collaborated with great artists such as Andy Warhol.

But at the top of his career, he suddenly disappears after an overdose.

This exhibition is a massive retrospective of his work: Drawings, paintings on canvas, wood, fridge...( Basquiat used every single support for his Art).
It is on until the 30th of January at the MAM (Museum of Modern Art) in Paris, so if you are around go and visit, and i advise you to go on a week day early...The queue is huge!

This exhibition is amazing as you can really see and understand the impact of his work.

Meadham Kirchhoff

Meadham Kirchhoff is the union of Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff.
Edward is English and Benjamin is from the South of France.
I like their work i think they are really talented and worth watching...

Really cool band already in the London scene for a while but the buzz is going around with the new album "Mayhem" the eponym song is the soundtrack for the movie "Wild Target" (Emily Blunt, Ruppert Everett).
if you like rockabilly with its true soul not just the looks without the sound (as I see it more and more...) have a look at her she's a gorgeous all leopard red lips Dublin lady!
I love it and hope you love it too and she is just melts in this rockabilly trend we are heading to...

After 10 years being Carine's right hand man, she becomes the main editor.
Emmanuelle is a renowned stylist in the industry and has gained experience while working for Elle, 20ans and Mixte magazines.
She should be taking office on the 1rst of february 2011.

This year has seen many new designs for fake eyelashes, i have tried them once and it thought that they were too extravagant but in the end everyone weres them, some of them are quite natural and do give you the "cat's eyes" enhancing your look.

But for New year's eve, the diversity of the designs are really great, i think they are worth a try!

And for having tried different ones it is really a matter of good quality, they can be reused so better buy a good pair unless you are fearless about loosing one or being concerned all night!!

Better put the price and just be concerned about partying and looking gorgeous!!

Ranges are now wide enough to find your favourite, from MAC to your favourite make up brand, so give it a go, also it is possible to add just seperate lashes to the corners of your eyes, looks natural!

I was wondering about this colourful hair styles i see everywhere.
Katy perry, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna...Then i reminded that Christina also had a similar take in her "keeps getting better" video so i did a little mood board with all of them.
Angelina Jolie's hairdo in "Salt", beyonce's one in "Telephone" and Gwen's one all related to each other.
And when we think about all these girls, they are all solo artists and strong features, independant, daring...It remind me Russ Meyer's movies, where girls have the power and make guys know it in a rather strong way. Tarantino himself was a big fan and you can feel the vibe in his movies such as " Kill Bill", " Death Proof" etc...Where girls take their revenge on terrible men! And i must say each time i watch a Tarantino movie i just cant wait the moment when the girls come to action (as the first parts make you understand and caution the wild and rare violence they can achieve and be on their side, pittyless! Love it!).
You could see the Meyer's reference in "telephone" video featuring Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
So its all about self confidence, daring but most of all having fun!!

Hi i just think these two ladies are going to be the next big thing....I feel like we are going to hear a lot about them! In this upcoming hybrid fashion trend ( blend of cultures, funky "metissage").
Nicki has featured on many artists videos ( "Woohoo" with Xtina Aguilera,"Up out my face" with mariah carey and recently for her new album with Will.I.Am with "Check it out").
She opened the last VMA awards with her tune: using the sample of "Radio kill the video star" from the Buggles).
The album "Pink Friday" is out on Tuesday and she will surely make a buzz!
I'm not crazy about her songs but i love the character, pink hair, Barbie looks, a kind of Missy Elliott wrapped in a big pink bonbon flow, she's fun and sexy curvy.

In a similar way miss Amber Rose Model and socialite (her presence at so many catwalks last season made me think she's one to watch!) known as Kanye West ex Girl, is to my mind linked with the Nicki vibe...Another sexy curvy lady with Cap Verdean origins, who dares being feminine and kicks all the "fashion dictates" of slimness....And i'm loving it!

As i was linking the two i discovered that they were friends and maybe more??Rumours...And then it makes me even more feel like they are absolutely the ones to watch!

I just got to see the video for " Whip My Hair" from Willow Smith...
It sounds like Rihanna and at first i thought it was her.
She's just 9 years old and have signed a contract with Jay Z.
I wonder when we will see 4 year old children doing the same, i'm quite not sure if i like it or not, because i feel like its going way to fast and i feel like kids are already facing a lot of things.
The upcoming generations are knowing far to much things right now. I'm not being old fashioned about this but just it brings me thoughts about this "celebrity wannabe" at an even younger age.
Naivity is part of childhood and all this seems to break it, they are already dealing with adult "world" at a so early
stage of their lives.
But anyway i guess that things are moving really fast and we have to accept it.
But i'm not saying the song is bad, just it sometimes scare me to see all these kids coming up in stardom, i wonder how they will deal with all this later on...

Have you seen this recently???
So many ads, videos, movies where bisexuality is shown.
After showing gay and lesbian in these supports, we now have the ones who love both sex.
You can see it by looking at these movie posters (two of them are even so similar in the typography and image layout):

I saw an interview of the actors from the movie "Happy Few" and people were making such a fuss about "oh so is it your personal fantasy to go with a girl?Two couples together?"...You know, instead of talking about the movie itself, of course it's the subject but come on...
And i'm thinking "Hello" its been around since many years since men and women are on earth!!!!

Look at the TV show "secret Story" in France: more and more candidates are bisexuals now... chosen on purpose to have great stories to show!!

Following my previous post about Joan Jett and the runways that inspired to me M. Schwab catwalk, i see it follows at Jean Paul Gaultier's one.
It seems i wasnt too wrong...With a great entrance from Beth Ditto, the models have walked on Joan Jett's " I love rock'n roll", the style was punk, rock like Balmain's.

Alexander Mcqueen was more drama, lace, optic prints, sharp edge cuts...

Chanel broke a little bit their classic style, into something more edgy, i like the duo man/child by the way...

Last but not least, Emanuel Ungaro!!!!I was waiting for this show, really impatient to see what Mr Giles Deacon did for the brand! And i'm happy with the result, after the poor Lohan.....
He brought back the brand to its heights, its feminin, sexy, a little drama too, very Dita Von Teese to me!!!

I worked for both Emanuel and Giles, and its funny to see them united here...

So again, i do really want to bring up the Lady gaga, Dita, trends that seems to continue...
Also the rock and punk and the 70's ( Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel, i'll do another post about that).

Also, the colours, still black, red and blues, touch of pastels too...

Exciting Paris,
Day 2...

Some serious drama, punk and alien gaga like!
Nina Ricci has a little something of Dolce and Gabbana lace spirit, a chic drama but white gothic feel.
Balmain goes punk, grunge, tights with holes, rocky tees and messed up hair, Zac Posen goes for theatre drama like, deep reds and black, mysterious...
While Gareth Pugh goes for some very structured, modern cuts in a very pale grey with hints of black and white that reminds me Givenchy's last collection.
More architectural style and alien lookalike models with spikes in the hair and on the shoes for Rick Owens.
There's a serious bondage kind of theme coming up too...Powerful women, you choose: drama, punk, or structured!

Fresh and Bold

A very fresh summer to come, D&G stick to its farm girl but in a fresher green hippie style, romantic girl, ready to go and pick strawberries and do the garden.

I love the prints too, florals everywhere, bigger, brighter...But also checks and stripes the code is COLOUR!Next summer is going to be joyful, light, but also balanced with rich deep colours (nb:Marc Jacobs and Gucci).

Here the blues, reds oranges...have a big part in the shows, bold and fresh.

Again i specially love Edem's collection i think he's definately one to follow.

On the recent Catwalks for next summer there's a trend of ice blues, aqua, mint greens...Also mustard yellows that i'll pick up later as i think will be the "plain summer" colour matched with plums and deeps purples.

I will do later on a little sum up for new shapes, but i can say i feel like pleats, drappés, asymetric shoulders...

It seems like menswear is getting more and more exciting, daring, and it feels good!

Wide cuts are in! Think Westwood, Comme des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto...harem pants, drappes...
Black is all over the place this next summer so go for it!No more guilt feel wearing this colour for summer!
On the other hand: Bloc Colours, red, blue, yellow....

Leather, like the womens this summer, leather is in: structured and black.

Erdem Moralioglu, established his brand in 2005.

Raised in Canada, born from a turkish father and an english mother he studied in both Montréal and London.

After an internship at Vivienne Westwood he then studied at the Royal College Of Art.

Graduating in 2003, he then worked for Diane von Furstenberg in New York.After what, in 2005, he won the Fashion fringe award and shown his first collection.

He kept winning awards in 2007 and 2008.

In 2009 he was awarded the ELLE magazine "fashion Future Award" and was also nominated for the Swiss textile and for the british fashion Council's award...

This summer there is also the ethnic trend as usual i must say, here is a moodboard inspired by Chris Ofili (artist at the Tate modern) with picked items i quite liked.

Again dont go for the total look, might be toooo much, but just balance accessories/clothing: if you have a very ethnic piece of clothing mix with metal or wooden jewellery, if you are wearing quite simple or plain clothes you can go wilder on the accessories (printed bags,beaded jewellery, statement necklaces...).

Hi,
I took pictures in London and posted them not so long ago, you might have seen the "animals" i took pictures of in my recent London errands.
I was hanging around in London and saw an exhibition launch and went in and surprise: it was about him! (That's what i love about this city by the way, there's always something happening!).
So now i can put a name on the Art! ROA is originally from Belgium and is to my surprise quite young (i saw him at the exhibition) but he certainly has a great talent.
There will be more and more cities with his work very soon i'm sure!
